Our esteemed landscape architecture and land planning division provides a comprehensive suite of services for diverse sectors including commercial, mixed-use, parks and open spaces, energy and renewables, educational institutions, multi-family housing, and governmental clients.

As a Senior Project Manager, you will oversee all stages of project execution, collaborate with external consultants on significant initiatives, and guide team members in their professional development. Ideal candidates will possess a strong passion for the built environment, be self-driven, appreciate design at all levels, and thrive in a collaborative studio atmosphere. We are committed to empowering our designers with responsibilities and fostering mentorship and career advancement opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Project and Task Management (55-65%)

  • Lead and supervise internal landscape architecture and civil engineering project teams in the development of planning, site layout, and landscape design documentation.
  • Coordinate with external consultants and project teams to ensure comprehensive planning, site layout, and construction documentation.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Work alongside Directors to facilitate concept visioning sessions.
  • Ensure quality assurance and quality control from concept through to documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers to uphold project timelines, budgets, milestones, and deliverables, effectively communicating this information to team members.

Design and Technical Production (5-15%)

  • Partner with project managers and team members on various project types and scales.
  • Support project teams in the creation of design documents throughout all project phases.
  • Assist teams in developing construction cost estimates and specifications.
  • Engage with external vendors during the design process.
  • Participate in construction administration tasks.

Department Operations (10-15%)

  • Collaborate with Directors to foster innovation, design initiatives, and establish standards for the landscape architecture department.
  • Coordinate with Directors and firm leadership on strategic planning and visioning, setting clear business strategies for the landscape architecture department.
  • Work with project managers and design teams to develop organizational systems.
  • Mentor staff in their professional growth and advocate for landscape architecture within Timmons Group.

Marketing and Business Development (10-15%)

  • Craft design proposals for private development projects.
  • Prepare responses to public RFPs and qualifications-based proposals, including presentations and interviews for prospective work.
  • Assist the Marketing team and Directors in enhancing Timmons Group's brand recognition and market presence.
  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with A/E firms to position for strategic projects.

Administrative Management, Marketing, and Training (10-20%)

  • Participate in regular meetings to coordinate projects and work plans.
  • Review project budgets, manage billing and invoicing, and analyze monthly reports.
  • Engage in recruitment, training, and onboarding of new team members.
  • Take part in training and professional development initiatives.
  • Act as a mentor for the next generation of talent, building a talent pipeline through outreach with local design communities and educational institutions.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 12 years of professional experience in landscape architecture is preferred.
  • Professional registration as a Virginia Licensed Landscape Architect or the ability to obtain reciprocity promptly.
  • Team-oriented with strong design, graphic, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Proficient in producing high-quality concept presentations and documentation sets.
  • Experience in project accounting and demonstrated ability to manage project schedules and budgets.
  • Knowledgeable in construction administration and specifications.
  • Experience in business development and client relations.
  • Familiarity with both in-office and remote project management.
  • Proficient in design software including AutoCAD, Land F/X, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, and 3D modeling applications.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Suite applications, BlueBeam PDF, and construction management software.
  • LEED or SITES Accreditation is preferred but not mandatory.
