Role Summary:
The Sustainability Lead will evaluate environmental impacts, including energy consumption and emissions, and create strategies aimed at conservation, renewable resource utilization, efficiency enhancement, and cost reduction. This role requires staying informed about external sustainability trends, analyzing their implications for Tate's offerings, and ensuring compliance with relevant building regulations and policies. Responsibilities include conducting carbon assessments, educating teams, and recommending initiatives such as facility design modifications and energy management programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Formulate and assess strategies to promote conservation, increase renewable resource utilization, enhance efficiency, and minimize energy expenses or waste.
- Conduct carbon assessments for primary product lines utilizing life cycle assessments.
- Collaborate with the sustainability team to identify opportunities for improving environmental performance across product ranges.
- Interpret policy documents, ESG objectives, and sustainability targets, translating key information for various stakeholders.
- Maintain and enhance existing certifications that align with the company's sustainability goals, including Cradle-to-Cradle and Health Product certifications.
- Develop product declarations and Material Passports.
- Assist in introducing lower embodied carbon options to the market, providing validated evidence of product benefits.
- Stay updated on emerging trends in the built environment, including policy changes and customer expectations, and communicate relevant insights to teams.
- Evaluate the environmental footprint, focusing on energy usage and waste emissions.
- Recommend modifications to facility design or construction, and propose energy management initiatives.
Additional Expectations:
- Adhere to the Code of Conduct and company policies, including compliance regulations.
- Ensure all product compliance duties align with legal and market requirements.
- Address any compliance-related concerns with appropriate personnel.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree or higher in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Business Sustainability, or a related discipline.
- Three to five years of experience in sustainability or environmental science.
- Experience with Life Cycle Assessments and Environmental Product Declarations is preferred, with training available.
- Proven experience in an environmental or sustainability role within the construction sector, with a strong understanding of decarbonization.
- Knowledge of factors impacting Global Warming Potential (GWP) in product manufacturing.
- Familiarity with relevant environmental certifications.
- Technical understanding of manufacturing processes and product delivery.
- Willingness to travel as needed and flexibility to relocate if required.
