Position Overview:
The Regional Retail Compliance Specialist is tasked with ensuring that our cannabis retail locations adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines. Candidates should possess a solid background in compliance management within highly-regulated sectors such as cannabis, pharmaceuticals, or food and beverage.
The successful applicant will have a proven history of developing, executing, and sustaining a comprehensive compliance framework. This includes leading auditing initiatives, managing corrective measures, and drafting standard operating procedures.
Essential attributes include exceptional organizational capabilities, meticulous attention to detail, the ability to collaborate with diverse teams, and strong analytical skills to navigate complex challenges within tight deadlines. This role necessitates extensive travel throughout the region to conduct audits at retail locations and foster a compliance-oriented culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain audit checklists tailored to each state to ensure compliance with changing laws and regulations.
- Become proficient in seed-to-sale tracking systems to audit records and assist in resolving inventory discrepancies.
- Regularly monitor and audit product and waste inventory, addressing any discrepancies that arise.
- Support store renovations and new construction projects by reviewing floor plans and security measures, collaborating with retail and operations teams for inspection readiness.
- Maintain a cooperative relationship with retail teams to proactively identify and resolve compliance challenges.
- Address daily compliance requirements for each market, including responding to state inspections, investigating compliance and inventory issues, fulfilling reporting obligations, and resolving security concerns.
- Review marketing and promotional materials to ensure adherence to state regulations.
- Design and deliver regulatory training for staff on state laws and regulations to promote compliance at all facilities.
- Continuously monitor state regulations and agency guidance as they evolve.
- Act as a subject matter expert on compliance matters across all states in the region.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- 1-3 years of compliance experience in a highly-regulated industry is required.
- Specific experience in cannabis, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, or retail operations is preferred.
- Familiarity with seed-to-sale software systems (e.g., METRC, BioTrack, MJ Freeway) is advantageous.
- Experience in leading inspections and developing corrective action plans is essential.
Travel Requirements:
This role requires frequent travel throughout the region.
Physical and Mental Demands:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to remain stationary, communicate effectively, and manage various tools and controls. The employee may occasionally lift packages weighing up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close observation and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
This position is primarily office-based, with a moderate noise level.
