Lead Environmental Compliance Specialist

The ideal candidate will possess the necessary educational background and professional experience to oversee specialists in environmental and historic preservation, ensuring adherence to federal compliance standards across various Historic Preservation and Environmental Planning regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the Environmental and Historic Preservation Advisor during federally declared disaster events.
  • Facilitate communication between disaster field management and regional environmental authorities.
  • Manage a team of Environmental Planners and Historic Preservation Specialists.
  • Supervise compliance reviews related to environmental and historic preservation for disaster assistance grants.
  • Develop and conduct Environmental and Historic Preservation training sessions at local, state, Tribal, and regional levels, including the creation of training materials.
  • Share technical and regulatory insights through various formats such as briefings, documents, workshops, and public hearings.
  • Provide expert guidance to Public Assistance staff throughout project development and grant processing.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in leading teams focused on environmental and historic preservation compliance, including:

  • Evaluating staff compliance decisions in accordance with relevant regulations (e.g., National Environmental Policy Act, National Historic Preservation Act, Endangered Species Act).
  • Coordinating and overseeing environmental and historic preservation efforts at federal, state, tribal, or local levels.
