Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Certified Ophthalmic Assistant to join our team at Riverside Health System. As a key member of our ophthalmology department, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our physicians in delivering high-quality eye care services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greets patients and reviews the reason for their office visit, ensuring a timely and efficient experience.
  • Performs and records pertinent clinical measures, including Visual Acuities, Refractometry, Application Tonometry, Keratometry, Slit Lamp Exams, Visual Fields, and OCT.
  • Prepares prescription refills for physician review and signature, and facilitates patient education through brochures and videos.
  • Accompanies physicians to surgery and prepares surgery charts and post-operative bags.
  • Reviews patient medical, allergic, ophthalmic, and family histories, including current prescriptions, glasses, and contact lenses.
  • Communicates and documents essential information to physicians and team members, and prepares referral follow-up letters and dictations for physician review and signature.
  • Facilitates patient education and reviews patient voicemails and returns calls to patients and pharmacies in a timely manner.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED (Preferred)
  • Program Graduate, Optical Assistant (Preferred)
  • 1 year Ophthalmology/Optometry Office experience (Preferred)
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) - Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) (Required)
