Job Summary

Central Washington University is seeking a highly qualified Assistant Professor of Biochemistry to join our Chemistry department in Ellensburg, Washington. This is a critical role that will contribute to the university's mission by enhancing the academic experience of our students.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching introductory and advanced chemistry and biochemistry courses, mentoring students, contributing to the department's research and service activities, and engaging in scholarship appropriate to their field. We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about teaching, research, and service, and who is committed to creating a learning environment that is welcoming, accessible, and inclusive for all students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach a wide range of courses at all levels, including introductory and advanced chemistry and biochemistry courses.
  • Mentor students and contribute to the department's research and service activities.
  • Engage in scholarship appropriate to their field and contribute to the university's commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Develop and implement curriculum that aligns with the department's goals and objectives.
  • Participate in departmental and university service activities, including committee work and professional development.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in biochemistry or chemistry or related field by the position start date.
  • Excellent teaching and research skills, with a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • University-level teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of bioinorganic or inorganic chemistry.
  • Postdoctoral research or employment in a field of biochemistry or bioinorganic chemistry.
  • Experience in curriculum development and improvement.
  • Potential to obtain external funding.
  • Potential to mentor and educate students who will serve diverse populations.
