Behavioral Support Specialist I-IV

SUMMARY:

The In-Home Based Services (IHBS) Coach, also referred to as the Therapeutic Behavioral Specialist (TBS Coach), delivers personalized, strength-based behavioral modification services to children and adolescents facing significant emotional challenges, navigating stressful transitions, or undergoing life crises. This role may also involve collaboration with the child's family or caregivers to implement effective behavioral strategies and positive coping mechanisms.
POSITION SUMMARY:
As a Therapeutic Behavior Specialist (IHBS/TBS), your primary responsibility will be to provide tailored, strength-based behavioral modification services to individuals residing in a Short-Term Residential Treatment Program (STRTP). The children and youth receiving these services often experience serious emotional disturbances and require additional, short-term support to meet the objectives outlined in their treatment plans.

In your role as an IHBS/TBS staff member, you will work closely with children and youth, fostering the skills necessary for successful integration into their home and community environments, ultimately facilitating their transition to a lower level of care.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Acquire a comprehensive understanding of functional behavioral analysis, behavioral modification techniques, crisis intervention, and other relevant methodologies when engaging with children facing behavioral challenges.
- Ensure meticulous and timely documentation in compliance with all program and contractual standards.
- Collaborate with the client's therapist, family/caregivers, and other stakeholders in the development and implementation of the treatment plan.
- Participate actively in all mandatory meetings, including Children and Family Team meetings.
- Execute specific trauma-informed interventions as outlined in the child's treatment plan to aid in behavior remediation and symptom improvement.
- Work effectively with the client's multidisciplinary team to deliver cohesive and comprehensive treatment.
- Provide support and education to caregivers, assisting them in the application of effective behavioral interventions throughout daily routines.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and familiarity with EHR systems.
- Demonstrated crisis management skills and the ability to perform necessary interventions.
- Strong organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive rapport with children, youth, and families.
- Knowledge of behavior modification principles, child development, and the child welfare system.
- Capacity to function effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in a behavioral sciences field, or completion of 30 semesters/45 quarter units of college coursework, with at least half being upper division, alongside a minimum of 2 years of experience working with at-risk youth or dually diagnosed children in residential or educational settings.
- Bilingual Spanish is strongly preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS:
- Valid driver's license and proof of automobile insurance.
- Completion of CPR/ProACT certification within the first thirty days of employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to drive a vehicle safely, often in heavy traffic and for extended distances.
- Capable of utilizing senses of vision, hearing, and smell to ensure safety in various environments.
- Occasional lifting and carrying of 10-20 pounds.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk during family visits.
- Frequent use of a computer in office settings.
