POSITION OVERVIEW:

The primary objective of the Custodial Specialist role is to execute the daily responsibilities of the Cleaning Department as directed by your supervisor. Contribute to fostering a clean and positive atmosphere for all residents.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administrative Duties

  • Adhere to established cleaning schedules as closely as possible.
  • Immediately report any accidents or incidents to your supervisor, regardless of severity.
  • Coordinate daily cleaning services with nursing staff when conducting routine cleaning in resident areas.
  • Return all found or unclaimed items to your supervisor.

Cleaning Duties

  • Carry out daily cleaning tasks as assigned.
  • Perform specific cleaning tasks based on daily work assignments.
  • Daily empty and sanitize ashtrays.
  • Clean and polish furniture, fixtures, and heating/cooling units in resident rooms and common areas.
  • Sanitize bathroom fixtures and ensure removal of water marks.
  • Wash windows and mirrors in resident rooms and common areas.
  • Maintain floors through sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, and disinfecting.
  • Set up caution signs prior to cleaning tasks.
  • Vacuum, shampoo, and deodorize carpets as needed.
  • Wash and dust walls and ceilings, ensuring cleanliness throughout.
  • Dispose of waste in appropriate containers and ensure trash receptacles are lined.
  • Clean vacant rooms as assigned.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas and ensure proper storage of tools and supplies.
  • Follow infection control procedures during isolation cleaning.
  • Dispose of infectious waste in designated containers.

Safety and Sanitation Duties

  • Comply with fire safety policies and procedures.
  • Observe safety precautions while performing tasks and using equipment.
  • Utilize safety equipment when lifting or moving heavy items.
  • Ensure work areas are kept clean, safe, and inviting.
  • Keep workspaces free of hazards.
  • Follow proper procedures for mixing cleaning chemicals and solutions.
  • Report any hazardous conditions or equipment issues to your supervisor.
  • Maintain established infection control practices.
  • Use personal protective equipment when handling hazardous materials.
  • Follow protocols for disposing of personal protective equipment and waste.
  • Coordinate isolation cleaning with nursing staff.
  • Adhere to handwashing procedures.
  • Dispose of refuse daily according to sanitation protocols.

Equipment and Supply Duties

  • Ensure adequate cleaning supplies are stocked in utility areas.
  • Keep your supervisor informed of supply needs.
  • Report any malfunctioning lights or equipment promptly.
  • Assist colleagues with heavy lifting as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and functionality of cleaning equipment.
  • Ensure equipment is cleaned and stored properly at the end of shifts.

Resident Rights Responsibilities

  • Maintain confidentiality of resident information.
  • Knock before entering resident rooms.
  • Respect residents' personal and property rights.
  • Report any allegations of resident abuse or property misappropriation.
  • Inform residents when their belongings need to be moved for cleaning.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work in various areas of the facility.
  • Engage in physical activity throughout work hours.
  • Experience frequent interruptions that may require rescheduling tasks.
  • Interact with residents, staff, visitors, and regulatory personnel.
  • Handle emotionally charged situations with residents and their families.
  • Communicate effectively with other staff members.
  • Be available for additional hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
  • May be called back during emergencies.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training programs.
  • Face potential hazards such as falls, burns, and exposure to chemicals.
  • Handle infectious materials and waste according to safety protocols.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma or GED required.

Experience: No prior experience necessary; on-the-job training will be provided.

Specific Requirements:

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Capacity to make independent decisions when necessary.
  • Ability to interact tactfully with residents, families, and the public.
  • Willingness to collaborate harmoniously with team members.
  • Patience, tact, and a positive attitude are essential.
  • Open to learning and implementing new cleaning methods.
  • Ability to follow instructions regarding cleaning solutions and procedures.
  • Must not pose a health threat to others in the workplace.
