Job Summary

As a Financial Operations Specialist with Cook County Government, you will play a critical role in the management of grant and financial activities. Your responsibilities will include executing day-to-day financial and administrative tasks, such as operations budgeting and tracking, payroll, corporate budget analysis and projections, and financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in preparing budgets and financial analyses for grants
  • Execute day-to-day financial and administrative activities, including operations budgeting and tracking, payroll, and financial reporting
  • Provide moderate-level insight, advice, and expertise to other professionals, management, and external contacts in an assigned functional area
  • Operate as a team player and communicate specialized knowledge to team members, managers, and external stakeholders
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree
  • Two (2) years of finance, accounting, or directly related experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
  • Knowledge of grants lifecycles, financial processes, and budgeting
  • Ability to review work products in detail to ensure they are clear, concise, and free of errors
  • Ability to plan and prioritize day-to-day activities by urgency and importance
  • Ability to make informed, objective decisions and refer to leadership when needed
  • Ability to assume responsibility and ownership of work products to deliver quality business results
Physical Requirements

Sedentary Work involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.

Veteran's Preference

Cook County Government gives preference in the application process to honorably discharged Veterans who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States for more than 180 consecutive days, or during War Time. To take advantage of this preference, a Veteran must:

  • Meet the minimum qualifications for the position
  • Identify themselves as a Veteran on their employment application
  • Attach a copy of their DD 214, DD 215, or NGB 22 at time of application filing
