Job Summary

This role requires a highly skilled medical coder with expertise in spine surgery coding. The ideal candidate will have advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding systems, as well as experience working with complex surgical cases.

The responsibilities of this position include:

  • Reviewing and accurately assigning diagnostic and procedural codes to encounters using designated coding classification independently
  • Supporting ongoing training and development of staff
Key Responsibilities

As a Medical Coding Specialist - Spine Surgery Expert, you will be responsible for:

  • Organizing and prioritizing complex coding work to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and hospital targets
  • Assigning the most appropriate diagnosis and procedures to reflect the utilization of resources during the patient encounter
  • Recognizing documentation clarification opportunities to ensure it supports all codes and designation assignments
Technical Capabilities

This role requires advanced technical capabilities, including:

  • Critical thinking: ability to analyze complex information and make sound judgments
  • Medical coding: advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding systems
  • Medical terminology and documentation: ability to comprehend medical terminology and documentation
MUST HAVE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CERTIFICATIONS

To be successful in this role, you must have one of the following certifications:

  • CPC
  • COC
  • CCS
  • CCS-P
  • RHIA
  • RHIT
