Position Overview:
QinetiQ US is in search of TARS Operational Support Personnel for roles such as Flight Specialists, Machinery Maintenance Mechanics, and Electronics Technicians. These positions will support the DHS Customs & Border Protection Tethered Aerostat Radar System (TARS) program, which utilizes aerostat systems to deliver continuous surveillance and detection capabilities for our U.S. Government clientele.

Key Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will possess direct experience with TARS, TASS, or PSS-T as an operational support professional or have prior program support experience. Each team member will operate within a 24/7 environment, engaging in aerostat pre-launch, launch, ascent, transition, station keeping, and recovery operations. Candidates should have experience in one of the following roles:

  • Flight Director:
    Responsible for directing and executing all aerostat electronic subsystem preflight and post-flight checks and inspections as necessary. Maintains awareness of local weather conditions and trends affecting mission support. Communicates with the TARS Control Center, Meteorological Forecast Facilities, and other relevant agencies. Prepares and manages flight system weight logs and balance records for the operational aerostat. Evaluates aerostat lift and purity trends, reporting any anomalies to management and suggesting corrective actions. Applies advanced technical expertise to resolve complex issues related to electronic equipment.
  • Machinery Maintenance Mechanic:
    Utilizes advanced technical knowledge and experience to oversee aerostat system operations and maintenance, which may not be achievable solely through reference materials. Acts as a vital member of the flight crew during inflation, deflation, launch, recovery, and in-flight operations. Operates aerostat launch/recovery control systems, including backup systems. Directs and performs maintenance on aerostat pressure and control subsystems, power subsystems, mechanical and hydraulic systems, and aerostat hardware.
  • Electronics Technician:
    Employs advanced technical knowledge to tackle complex problems in electronic equipment. Functions as a key member of the flight crew for all phases of aerostat operations. Conducts corrective and preventive maintenance on various subsystems and performs preflight and post-flight checks and inspections. Trains and certifies personnel in aerostat electronic subsystem procedures.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5 years of direct experience with Aerostat-related systems (specific to Flight Director)
  • 2 years of industry-related experience (for other listed positions)
  • Successful completion of a Background Investigation with a Favorable Suitability Determination
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License
  • Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking)
  • Proof of U.S. residency
  • Ability to lift 60-80 lbs and climb
  • Capability to work from elevated platforms and in confined spaces
  • Physical ability to perform various activities including walking, standing, and lifting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience specific to TARS
  • Industry-specific certifications
  • Military equivalent experience
