About the Role

Samsung SDS America is seeking a highly skilled Logistics Claims Attorney to join our team. As a key member of our logistics and supply chain team, you will play a critical role in identifying and resolving complex legal issues related to logistics claims.

Key Responsibilities
  • Draft, Review, and Negotiate Legal Documents: You will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of legal documents related to logistics claims, including contracts, agreements, and claims submissions.
  • Internal and External Communication: You will communicate with internal stakeholders, including business leaders and claims adjusters, as well as external parties, such as insurance brokers, carriers, and third-party administrators.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: As the internal subject matter expert, you will provide interpretation and explanation of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures related to logistics claims.
  • Claim Analysis and Validation: You will analyze collected data to determine claim validity and coverage, as well as liability.
  • Legal Advice and Guidance: You will provide legal advice to internal clients on the resolution of claims and complaints.
  • Legislative and Regulatory Updates: You will identify legislative and regulatory changes and recommend appropriate action.
  • Reporting and Analysis: You will develop and distribute key reports and analyses, including claim reports and ad hoc reports for management.
  • Compliance and Best Practices: You will promote legal compliance and best practices across the business.
  • Training and Development: You will deliver training and training materials to the business on key legal areas.
  • Contract Review and Negotiation: You will work within company guidelines to review, analyze, and negotiate contractual agreements with customers, shippers, consignees, or carriers.
  • Claims Resolution and Litigation: You will escalate and coordinate with External Claims Adjusters (cargo/freight forwarders, insurance carriers, etc.) to resolve claims issues and develop, prepare, and implement claims litigation strategy, including affecting settlements and insurance coverage limits.
  • Other Duties: You will perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Active Bar License: You must be an active member of the Texas or California bar in good standing.
  • Relevant Experience: You must have at least 6 years' relevant legal working experience, particularly in trucks/trailers, cargo/freight damages, property damages, maritime claims, disputes, and insurance.
  • Reporting and Analytical Skills: You must be able to produce reports to support findings and analyses.
  • Organizational and Communication Skills: You must be extremely organized and detail-oriented, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Collaboration and Time Management: You must be able to multitask and collaborate across different time zones, with a high sense of urgency.
  • Self-Motivation and Teamwork: You must be a self-motivated individual with an assertive attitude, able to excel in a team-based environment and work independently.
  • Technical Skills: You must be proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and web-based applications, as well as claims platforms.
  • Customer Service and People Skills: You must have strong customer service and people skills.
  • Travel and Work Location: You must be willing to travel up to 10% throughout the U.S. and work in a hybrid environment, with a minimum of 3 days on-site at our offices in Texas or California.
