Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording Engineer
4 weeks ago
You will be working in the HAMR Media Process Development & Product Integration group at Seagate's research center where we develop leading-edge recording media technology for future hard disk drives from theoretical concept through technology development to product maturity. The team works closely with other departments such as equipment engineering and magnetic and recording test and characterization.
About the role:
As a member of our team, you will work closely with the process team to fabricate and characterize novel media structures for Heat Assisted Magnetic Recording. You will learn and apply magnetic, thermal, and structural characterization techniques. You will use modern data analysis tools to compare measurements with modeling results to understand the underlying media physics.
About you:
We are looking for a highly motivated and talented individual who is available to start in May or June 2025 and return to school in the fall. You should have excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a creative environment. You should have a solid understanding of and hands-on experience with thin film deposition tools, and a broad range of magnetic, thermal, and structural characterization techniques. You should be proficient in data analysis skills with JMP, Origin, IGOR, MatLab, or similar software tools. You should be currently pursuing a Master's or PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Materials Science, or a related field.
Location:
Our research center is equipped with state-of-the-art clean room and lab space. On-site social activities are popular, including our annual BBQ, ice cream social, and holiday events. Wellness programs, gaming rooms, and the on-site fitness center help round out and balance your work-life experience, along with opportunities to give back to our local community.
Benefits:
Seagate offers comprehensive benefits to its eligible interns, including medical, dental, vision, and participation in the employee stock purchase plan. Seagate also offers interns paid time off, including 12 holidays and a minimum of 48 hours of paid sick leave. The benefits for this position are based on a 24 to 40-hour-per-week schedule for a full calendar year and may differ depending on work location and tenure with the Company.
