Job Summary:

The Rehabilitation Aide/Transporter will provide patient care and transportation services under the direct supervision of a clinician. This role will assist clinical staff in the provision of patient care programs and perform supportive tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the program.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain patient treatment areas before and after treatment sessions.
  • Adhere to Kennedy Krieger Institute policies regarding patient and staff safety, hygiene, patient privacy, and patient-specific and standard precautions.
  • Assist in the practice of therapeutic exercise and functional activities programs under direct supervision of a PT, OT, or COTA, as per Maryland state law.
  • Demonstrate appropriate application and removal of electrodes and orthotic devices, as well as technical proficiency of adaptive equipment and rehabilitation modalities.
  • Greet, transport, and assist patients with hygiene and dressing needs.
  • Remind and clarify appointment schedules for patients in conjunction with clinicians' treatment plans and care center scheduling.
  • Provide general program overview and conduct tours of the clinic for new patients and families.
  • Maintain program supplies, including ordering, inventory control, labeling, and storing supplies.
  • Participate in maintenance, organization, care, cleaning, transport, tracking, scheduling, and safe storage of equipment.
  • Identify and correct/report quality control problems, such as removal and coordination of repair of broken equipment, or environmental hazards.
  • Actively participate in meetings and committees, including execution of tasks related to preparing for regulatory review and performance improvement projects.
  • Attend staff and supervisory meetings and training sessions.

Qualifications:

  • Possess and maintain CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Demonstrate competence across all age groups due to the diversity of the children and families served by Kennedy Krieger Institute.
  • Clinical care focus is on the neonate, pediatric, and adolescent populations, as well as some adults with disabilities.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Graduate/GED required.
  • AA/AS degree preferred.
  • Enrollment in health occupation curriculum, certification, or academic program is preferred.
  • Some previous experience working or volunteering in a hospital or clinical setting preferred.
  • Experience working with or treating children or adults with developmental or acquired disabilities is preferred.
