Environmental Health and Safety Specialist

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of Akron Children's Hospital facilities in Ohio and Pennsylvania. This position is responsible for overseeing EHS programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and collaborating with various stakeholders to implement effective safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure compliance with EHS regulations and standards
- Conduct risk assessments, audits, and training programs to identify and mitigate potential hazards
- Assist with employee injury investigation and prevention, and coordinate hazardous waste management and spill response
- Coordinate with contractors and vendors to ensure compliance with waste disposal regulations
- Respond to EHS emergencies and coordinate clean-up efforts
- Oversee hazardous waste and universal waste programs, and lead spill control and prevention training
- Conduct routine audits of waste disposal vendors and facilities, and investigate environmental compliance issues
- Prepare reports and maintain records related to EHS programs and compliance
- Bachelor's Degree in environmental science, industrial hygiene, chemistry, or related field
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, with 7 years preferred
- DOT and RCRA certifications required, with CHMM and CSP certifications preferred
- Valid driver's license required
This is a full-time position, working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8am - 5pm, onsite at Akron Children's Hospital facilities.
