We are seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic Recreational Therapist I to join our team at the Hogan Regional Center in Danvers, MA. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in planning, organizing, and implementing therapeutic recreation services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement individualized therapeutic recreation plans to meet the unique needs and goals of each client.
- Evaluate and assess the recreation and leisure therapy needs of clients, including those with potentially aggressive behaviors, acute psychiatric needs, and fragile medical/physical conditions.
- Facilitate and oversee therapeutic recreation and leisure services, including the development and implementation of programs and special events.
- Conduct training sessions for agency personnel and clients on various topics, including types of services available and leisure options.
- Collaborate with clinicians and other disciplines to ensure optimal use of resources and provide in-service training to staff.
- Communicate effectively with outside providers, staff, families, and colleagues regarding changes, progress, and status.
- Request and oversee the use of supplies, equipment, and community resources to promote appropriate recreation therapy services.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of therapeutic recreation as they relate to the developmentally disabled, emotionally disturbed.
- Knowledge of the differences between therapeutic recreation and leisure programming.
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures followed in general recreational activities.
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner, including oral presentations and written reports.
- Ability to interact with individuals and staff in an effective manner, exercise leadership in group situations, and provide instruction and training.
- Ability to maintain a calm manner in stressful and/or emergency situations.
- Physical stamina and endurance.
- Master's degree in Recreation, Recreation Education, Creative Arts Therapy, or Therapeutic Recreation.
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Knowledge of Massachusetts laws and regulations related to developmental services.
