About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a Unified Communications Network Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing and implementing advanced communications systems for our nation's decision makers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement conferencing and collaboration solutions using commercial and standards-based technologies.
  • Stay up-to-date on emerging technologies and propose innovative approaches to address unique sponsor challenges.
  • Interact with technical specialists in other fields as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide mentorship to support early career staff growth and development.
  • Detail work in technical reports and memoranda and present outcomes to sponsors and the technical community.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in information science and technology, computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical field.
  • At least ten years of relevant experience in developing and deploying Unified Communications solutions.
  • Demonstrated skill in designing, deploying, and configuring session border controllers, as well as managing voice and video gateways.
  • Familiarity with industry standards like Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP), Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP), and Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to document design decisions in written formats and present to both expert and non-expert audiences.
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Top Secret level security clearance by start date and ultimately obtain a TS/SCI level clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in information science and technology, computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical field.
  • At least fifteen years of experience in developing and deploying Unified Communications solutions.
  • Vendor or industry certifications in the operation and management of varied vendor communications technologies.
  • Experience in the architecture, design, and implementation of unified communications and online collaboration technologies for commercial and/or government applications.
  • Proficiency in the performance of media codecs, video and teleconferencing technologies, as well as conference management and collaboration software.
  • Proficiency in the development of system/system-of-system architectures, protocol and algorithm development, rapid prototyping, and system integration.
  • Recent knowledge of DoD and/or intelligence community, sponsors, and programs.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance or an active Top Secret security clearance with a SSBI and recent adjudication for SCI access.
