Job Title: Maintenance Manager

Join the Paterson Public Schools team as a Maintenance Manager, responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of school facilities and grounds. This is a critical role that requires a strong background in facilities management, maintenance, and repair.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance plan to ensure the upkeep of all facilities, grounds, and major facilities systems.
  • Manage and supervise a team of maintenance and custodial staff to ensure the efficient operation of maintenance programs.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Facilities and other stakeholders to ensure that maintenance and repair projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Develop and implement a preventative maintenance program to minimize downtime and ensure the longevity of equipment and facilities.
  • Collaborate with school principals and other stakeholders to ensure that maintenance and repair needs are met in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Monitor and approve time records of designated maintenance and custodial personnel, and approve all overtime using established procedures and budgets.
  • Assist in maintaining the Fixed Assets Inventory, following the requirements of GAAP.
  • Develop and implement a system of financial records, controls, and accounting procedures for maintenance services in accordance with GAAP and applicable regulations.
  • Work cooperatively with the Supervisor of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics and with principals in the preparation of playing fields and facilities for athletics and school activities.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • At least five years of experience in facilities maintenance and repair, preferably in a supervisory role.
  • Knowledge of construction codes, health and safety regulations, financial and management practices, purchasing, supervision, and motivation of personnel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
  • Ability to use computers for word processing, data management, and telecommunications.
  • Valid driver's license for the type of equipment to be driven, with no serious violations.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Black Seal License, optional.
  • CEFM certificate within 2 years of employment.
  • Experience with maintenance management software and systems.

The Maintenance Manager will work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects and priorities. The position requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders.
