Job Title: Server Assistant

We are seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused Server Assistant to join our team at The MC Hotel, a boutique hotel in the heart of Montclair, New Jersey. As a Server Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional service to our guests and ensuring their stay with us is memorable and enjoyable.

Responsibilities:
  • Deliver exceptional service to guests, ensuring their needs are met and exceeded.
  • Follow service guidelines and standards to maintain a high level of quality and consistency.
  • Clean, set, and reset tables, as well as perform side duties, to ensure a seamless dining experience.
  • Serve water, bread, and coffee, and stack trays properly for efficient unloading.
  • Perform setup duties, including side stations, storage areas, and food staging areas, to ensure a smooth operation.
  • Fold napkins and maintain an adequate supply to meet guest demands.
  • Assist in all other food and beverage departments as needed, ensuring a cohesive and efficient service.
  • Answer telephones promptly and politely, providing excellent customer service.
  • Offer guests an enjoyable and expertly served beverage/dining experience, conforming to guidelines of excellence for quality, professionalism, and friendliness.
  • Anticipate and service guest needs, ensuring their stay with us is memorable and enjoyable.
  • Serve and clear food and beverage items in an unobtrusive and professional manner.
  • Be familiar with menus, including preparation, ingredients, and descriptions, to provide accurate information to guests.
  • Be familiar with the wine list and in wine and beverage service, including stemware used.
  • Complete opening and closing side work as assigned, ensuring all tables are set according to standard.
  • Present menus and explanations for all menu items, as well as specials of the day.
  • Utilize the hotel's computer system to ring up sales, print checks, close checks, and complete closing readings.
  • Carry trays, bus, and reset tables with linen, china, glass, and silver, ensuring a seamless dining experience.
  • Ascertain a guest's satisfaction and handle any problem that may arise, informing a manager of the problem and how it was resolved.
  • Recognize and address potential intoxicated, disruptive, or undesirable guests, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for all.
  • Stock linen, china, silver, and glassware for service, ensuring a seamless operation.
  • Ensure all silver equipment is in good condition and polished, maintaining a high level of quality and consistency.
  • Install buffets and brunch tables, as well as set up food items and displays, to ensure a smooth operation.
  • Maintain and retrieve all food items from the kitchen and attractively and safely transport them to an outlet.
  • Work closely and communicate with the kitchen associates, ensuring a cohesive and efficient service.
  • Assist in table-side service, serving dishes to guests while explaining the contents and preparation.
  • Properly clear and crumb tables, ensuring a clean and inviting environment for guests.
  • Offer coffee or tea and serve any requested, ensuring a seamless dining experience.
  • Break down any buffets, displays, or side stations when needed, ensuring a smooth operation.
  • Greet each guest promptly, courteously, and graciously, with eye contact, a smile, and good posture.
  • Recognize regular guests and greet them by their name, ensuring a personalized and memorable experience.
  • Make the guest feel comfortable and at ease in their room (Room Service), ensuring a seamless and enjoyable experience.
  • Keep accurate control of guest checks, credit vouchers, currency, and posting procedures, ensuring a smooth operation.
  • Record all guest charges, gratuities, and cash transactions accurately, ensuring a seamless and efficient service.
  • Set up orders on trays and tables and transport them to guest floors and rooms, ensuring a seamless dining experience.
  • Remove trays and tables from guest rooms and corridors, ensuring a clean and inviting environment.
  • Handle 'Do Not Disturb' rooms, ensuring a seamless and efficient service.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times, reflecting the hotel's high standards.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with other associates, ensuring a cohesive and efficient service.
  • Respond properly in any hotel emergency or safety situation, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for all.
  • Move chairs and tables, ensuring a seamless and efficient service.
Requirements:
  • Good reading, writing, and oral proficiency in the English language.
  • High school education or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of food and beverage experience.
  • Able to work well unsupervised and alone without direct supervision.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of drive and determination.
  • Constantly recommend service and product improvement to better the operation.
  • Keep the work area clean and tidy at all times.
  • Attend all required meetings.
  • Follow proper payroll and uniform procedures.
  • Properly handle and report associate and guest accidents.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all hotel and departmental policies/service procedures/standards.
  • Assist with responsibilities and duties in other departments and as assigned by management.
  • Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, associates may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with other associates by promoting teamwork and fostering a harmonious working climate.
  • Partake in a positive work ethic and surrounding environment.
