**Job Summary**

Dallas County is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Court Manager to oversee the operations of an assigned court and/or assigned cases. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in law and management, with a proven track record of supervising staff, evaluating and training personnel, and managing complex court dockets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and manage court staff, including Judges, Administrative Assistants, and other Court personnel.
  • Manage the court docket by assigning cases and work to Judges and other Court staff.
  • Authorize reductions in level or class of offenses, recommend PR bonds, approve granting of probation, and sign various types of dismissals.
  • Resolve disputes between the court, probate attorneys, and staff, and determine appropriate actions to be taken for unusual, extremely serious, or complex situations.
  • Evaluate assigned cases or lawsuits by reviewing documentation, conducting and interpreting legal research, interviewing witnesses, gathering evidence, and determining the appropriate action(s) to be taken.
  • Draft, file, and respond to motions, briefs, or other legal documents for trials and/or hearings.
  • Explain legal process to potential witnesses, prepare witnesses for court testimony, and ensure participants are kept informed on the status of the case.
  • Gather, prepare, and present evidence, exhibits, and related materials for trials or hearings.
  • Assist the Judge in pre-trials, evidentiary hearings, and jury/court trials by researching jury selection, researching opening statements, monitoring direct and cross-examinations of witnesses, and monitoring closing arguments.
  • Assess strengths and weaknesses of cases, review settlement agreements, and obtain approval, if necessary, of settlement agreements.
  • Prepare legal documents if settlement agreements are reached and ensure proper signatures are secured and documents filed as required.
  • Conduct presentations at conferences and seminars; instruct probate personnel in legal aspects of litigation; and speak before community and citizens groups.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited law school.
  • Four (4) years of experience practicing law.
  • Current license to practice law in the State of Texas.
  • Experience as lead for more-complex felony cases, as lead counsel in conjunction with more serious or complex civil litigation, or extensive appellate work on direct appeals and capital writs.
