Job Title: Transportation Engineer

Join the New York State Department of Transportation as a Transportation Engineer and contribute to the development and implementation of transportation projects that improve the safety and efficiency of our roads and highways.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Transportation Engineer to join our team. As a Transportation Engineer, you will be responsible for conducting traffic operations and safety studies, collecting and reviewing traffic data, and developing recommendations for traffic operations and safety improvements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct traffic operations and safety studies to address safety, operational, and capital program needs within different geographic areas in Long Island.
  • Collect and review traffic data, including data collected by consultants.
  • Develop recommendations for traffic operations and safety improvements.
  • Prepare technical correspondence for written and oral presentations.
  • Review construction projects from a traffic perspective and develop a punch list if required for resolution before contract acceptance.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology, or equivalent experience.
  • Proof of passing the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) and one year of full-time engineering experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft Office and other.
