Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused Produce Clerk to join our team at Smith's Food and Drug. As a key member of our sales team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and assisting with the preparation of produce platters and trays.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide outstanding customer service and create a welcoming environment for customers
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment, including the produce department and surrounding areas
  • Assist with the preparation of produce platters and trays, including labeling and inventorying merchandise
  • Inform customers of produce specials and recommend items to ensure they get the products they want and need
  • Review and inspect products for quality and freshness, and take appropriate action with those items
  • Display a positive attitude and stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads
  • Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are maintained
  • Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions and notifying store management
  • Practice preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notifying appropriate department or store manager of any items in need of repair
  • Notify management of customer or employee accidents and report all safety risks or issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud to store management
Requirements
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational, and cooperative manner
  • Effective communication skills and ability to follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues
  • Knowledge of basic math and ability to perform calculations accurately
  • Current food handlers permit once employed
  • Comparable retail experience and second language (speaking, reading, and/or writing) preferred
