We are seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused Produce Clerk to join our team at Smith's Food and Drug. As a key member of our sales team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and assisting with the preparation of produce platters and trays.
Key Responsibilities- Provide outstanding customer service and create a welcoming environment for customers
- Maintain a safe and clean environment, including the produce department and surrounding areas
- Assist with the preparation of produce platters and trays, including labeling and inventorying merchandise
- Inform customers of produce specials and recommend items to ensure they get the products they want and need
- Review and inspect products for quality and freshness, and take appropriate action with those items
- Display a positive attitude and stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads
- Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are maintained
- Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions and notifying store management
- Practice preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notifying appropriate department or store manager of any items in need of repair
- Notify management of customer or employee accidents and report all safety risks or issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud to store management
- Ability to handle stressful situations and manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational, and cooperative manner
- Effective communication skills and ability to follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues
- Knowledge of basic math and ability to perform calculations accurately
- Current food handlers permit once employed
- Comparable retail experience and second language (speaking, reading, and/or writing) preferred
