Lead Metal Fabrication Specialist

The Lead Metal Fabrication Specialist will be responsible for the preparation, cutting, shaping, and welding of metal components using various hand tools and machinery, including band saws, material brakes, and shears. This role is essential in providing fabrication support to the garage and shop services teams.
The Specialist will also mentor and supervise team members to ensure that both company and client standards are consistently met.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) and Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding, as well as silver soldering and operating spot welding machinery.
- Provide training, coaching, and mentorship to team members, serving as a subject matter expert to assist both the team and clients.
- Conduct quality inspections on finished products to ensure adherence to specifications.
- Maintain shop equipment by following operational guidelines, troubleshooting issues, performing preventive maintenance, and coordinating repairs as necessary.
- Operate various machinery including lathes, Bridgeports, surface grinders, and drill presses.
- Interpret and execute engineering blueprints effectively.
- Lead daily organization and cleanliness of the shop environment.
Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience:
At least 8 years of experience in fabrication work is required, with a minimum of 3 years in TIG or MIG welding. Additionally, 3 years of experience operating power brakes, shears, and bench machines is necessary. Familiarity with 3D software is also preferred.
Preferred Certifications:
Certification in Welding Technology or a related field is advantageous, along with American Welding Society (AWS) Certification.
Skills and Abilities:
- Advanced technical proficiency in reading and executing fabrication and welding blueprints, schematics, and codes.
- Expertise in measuring and laying out materials accurately using various tools.
- Proficient in TIG and MIG welding across multiple materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and aluminum.
- Comprehensive knowledge of safely operating fabrication shop machinery, including plasma cutters and Oxy-Fuel torches.
- Strong customer service orientation, attention to detail, and effective communication skills.
- Willingness to work overtime and weekends as needed.
