Under the supervision of the Production Supervisor or Group Leader, the Surface Preparation Specialist will undertake essential tasks in the fabrication and upkeep of Calgon Carbon Corporation products and equipment. All duties must be performed in accordance with company policies and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities (not limited to):

  • Conduct abrasive blasting on the interiors and exteriors of tanks and piping systems to meet specified surface cleanliness and profile standards. Assist sprayers as needed.
  • Inspect lining and coating systems on both purchased and produced equipment, including various coatings such as Plasite 4110, 4006, Ceilcote 242, epoxy, and polyurethane-based coatings.
  • Prepare equipment for painting and coating by performing cleaning, solvent wiping, taping, and papering tasks prior to application. Mix paints and linings following manufacturer guidelines.
  • Visually assess work for defects and compliance with specifications, making necessary repairs as required.
  • Perform inspections covering both surface preparation and finished coatings, ensuring adherence to cleanliness and profile standards. Utilize dry film thickness gauges and conduct holiday or spark testing, documenting inspection results thoroughly.
  • Monitor and report ambient conditions, including wet bulb and dry bulb temperatures, relative humidity, and surface temperatures to ensure compliance with application requirements.
  • Operate forklifts and overhead cranes for moving equipment in and out of the paint booth, assisting in various tasks as required.

Qualifications:

  • Must be available for a 3-shift rotation.
  • A High School diploma or Trade School certification is required.
  • 1 to 2 years of industrial labor experience is preferred.
  • A valid driver's license is necessary.
  • Ability to operate hand tools and forklifts, lift up to 70 lbs, and work in various positions including standing, kneeling, or squatting for extended periods. Must be comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights up to 20 feet.
  • Must be able to wear a positive sealing respirator.
