We are looking for a dedicated individual to support the Production Unit Manager(s) in overseeing and managing the daily operations of revenue cycle activities within the production unit. This role involves acting as a team leader to assist in evaluating and ensuring the accuracy of team outputs. Responsibilities include aiding in the preparation of weekly and monthly reports, developing office protocols, serving as a primary resource for troubleshooting and problem resolution, and exercising independent judgment. It is essential to maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient and staff information while fostering teamwork and identifying opportunities for improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Knowledge

  • Oversee and manage the daily processing of designated work queues as outlined by the Production Unit Manager.
  • Collaborate with the Production Unit Manager to identify trends within the revenue cycle.
  • Assist in training both new and existing staff members as directed by the Production Unit Manager.
  • Provide constructive feedback to management regarding issues and assist in resolving them.
  • Occasionally generate and submit weekly and monthly productivity reports to the Production Unit Manager as assigned.
  • Communicate, under the guidance of the Production Unit Manager, with relevant individuals outside the assigned department as designated by management.
  • Act as a substitute for the Production Unit Manager in their absence to report on work queue status.
  • Represent the department in CPA-led Office of Managed Care calls and summarize findings for management.
  • Identify and address critical issues, taking appropriate actions to resolve complex patient and medical insurance inquiries.

Technical Proficiency

  • Comprehensive understanding and adherence to HIPAA regulations concerning the handling of patient Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Familiarity with Revenue Cycle processes.
  • Utilize online tools to enhance claims processing efficiency.
  • Employ relevant functionalities of EPIC software.

Professional Development

  • Engage in ongoing educational opportunities.
  • Stay informed about industry developments by reviewing assigned materials related to work topics.
  • Complete training as opportunities arise.

Department-Specific Duties

  • Manage multiple work queues under the direction of the Production Unit Manager, including Registration, Charge Corrections, Patient Inquiry, Accounts Receivable, and Escalation.
  • Expected to work daily in specialized areas while also addressing accounts receivable tasks.
  • Collaborate with the Production Unit Manager to maintain an up-to-date Revenue Cycle Resource folder for staff access.
  • Conduct internal audits biannually for Collection Specialist staff under the Production Unit Manager's guidance.
  • Perform incentive audits as assigned.
  • Stay current on coding, payer, and compliance policies.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a specialized area or prior revenue cycle experience in a comparable environment is required.
  • Additional education beyond the minimum experience qualifications may substitute for required experience as permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate Degree or higher preferred.
  • Five years of experience in a specialized area or previous revenue cycle experience in a similar environment is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and analytical abilities.
  • Experience with coding, including modifier application and familiarity with CPT/diagnosis code application.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail and aptitude for numerical data.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and perform well under pressure.
  • Knowledge of Epic and electronic health records is preferred.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills are required.
  • Familiarity with JHM and JHU revenue cycle operations is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe products at an intermediate or expert level.

Total Rewards
The base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University's salary range for this position. Not all candidates will qualify for the upper end of the salary range. The exact salary will ultimately depend on various factors, including the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training, and other qualifications. Education and Experience Equivalency
