Position Overview:

Cancer Care Centers of Brevard is dedicated to providing exceptional cancer treatment through a network of skilled professionals. We are seeking a Full-time Radiation Oncology Physicist to join our team.

This role is crucial for ensuring the safe and effective delivery of radiation therapy, emphasizing patient safety and the precision of treatment plans.


Key Responsibilities:

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Assess and specify the necessary dosimetric and treatment planning tools, including calibration instruments and computerized systems.
  • Engage in the selection and acceptance processes for radiation equipment and associated technologies.
  • Oversee the maintenance and operational efficiency of radiation therapy devices.
  • Conduct regular evaluations of equipment to ensure optimal performance and recommend updates or replacements as needed.
  • Lead the development and implementation of quality management protocols related to external beam radiotherapy.
  • Collaborate with physicians to provide technical guidance during patient treatment planning.
  • Create and validate protocols for monitor unit calculations to align with prescribed treatment plans.
  • Participate in clinical discussions to ensure adherence to treatment prescriptions and adjustments.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of radiation treatment plans and equipment status.
  • Contribute to the training of new radiation therapy staff and students.
  • Manage quality assurance processes and physics-related treatment plans for brachytherapy programs.
  • Take a leadership role in advancing new technologies within the practice.
  • Engage in professional development activities, including mentorship and participation in relevant committees.
  • Assist in the management of the Medical Physicist team within the designated area.
  • Provide support across various Cancer Care Centers as required.
  • Direct the radiation oncology physics program, guiding medical dosimetrists and support staff.

Qualifications:

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

A post-doctoral degree in Physics from an accredited institution or a Master's degree with a minimum of three to five years of experience in radiation physics is required. Candidates must maintain certification and fulfill continuing education obligations as mandated by the American College of Radiology.

Current certification from the American Board of Radiology or the Board of Medical Physics is necessary, along with a valid state license for medical physics.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands of this position require the ability to operate treatment-planning computers and related equipment. Candidates must be capable of standing for extended periods, lifting up to 40 pounds, and possessing sufficient visual acuity and auditory capabilities to effectively interact with patients and staff.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This role is primarily office-based, involving regular interaction with colleagues and patients. Employees may encounter exposure to clinical conditions, including potential contact with blood and ionizing radiation.
