Job Summary

Columbia University seeks a highly skilled and experienced Associate Director, Investigations and Compliance to join our team. This is a critical role that requires a strong background in investigations, compliance, and Title IX.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough and impartial investigations into complaints of sex discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Work closely with the Senior Director of Investigations, Title IX Coordinator, and other University offices to ensure a comprehensive and efficient investigative process.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough investigatory files and reports, providing ongoing updates to senior directors and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Collaborate with University and community resources, including the Office of the General Counsel, Human Resources, and Deans of Students Offices, to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Assist with alternative resolutions, supportive measures, and campus training programs, as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree and Juris Doctor degree required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to interpret federal, state, and local equal opportunity and non-discrimination laws and regulations.
  • Strong organization, planning, analytic, and problem-resolution abilities, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to remain neutral.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and to multitask and meet sensitive timelines.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A minimum of six years of experience conducting investigations related to protected class discrimination and harassment, sexual misconduct, and gender-related violence in a higher education setting or other related field.
  • Knowledge of Title VI, Title VII, and Title IX.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough, impartial, and efficient investigations.
  • Excellent judgment and ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and produce concise, logical, analytical reports concerning complex issues.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills, including the ability to analyze information, evaluate, and problem-solve.
  • Strong ability to multitask and meet sensitive timelines.
