Position Overview

The Detroit Medical Center is currently in search of a Mammography Technologist to join our dedicated team.

Role Responsibilities

As a Mammography Technologist, you will be responsible for performing diagnostic mammographic examinations using advanced imaging technology. Your duties will include:

  • Ensuring patient identification and reviewing medical records to confirm the appropriateness of the procedure.
  • Conducting patient interviews to gather and verify medical history, assessing any relevant risk factors.
  • Explaining the examination process to patients, including potential side effects, risks, benefits, and alternatives.
  • Setting up imaging equipment and capturing necessary images according to established protocols.
  • Reviewing images for quality, documenting any deviations from standard procedures, and communicating findings to the radiologist.
  • Responding appropriately to medical emergencies and providing post-care instructions as directed by physicians.
  • Engaging in quality improvement initiatives within the radiology department to enhance patient care and satisfaction.
  • Providing educational support to residents, student technologists, and new staff members.
  • Being available for on-call duties as required and performing the responsibilities of a Radiologic Technologist when necessary.
Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Mammography.
  • Completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) training from the American Heart Association by the end of the orientation period.
Skills and Competencies

  • Strong analytical and clinical skills to determine the most suitable imaging techniques based on patient needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities to effectively interact with patients under stress.
  • Technical proficiency in operating specialized imaging equipment and computers.
  • The capability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of accreditation requirements set by the American College of Radiology and MQSA.
  • Physical stamina for tasks that involve frequent movement and patient handling.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity to produce high-quality diagnostic images.
