Housing Specialist

NORTH SUFFOLK COMMUNITY SERVICES INC is seeking a highly skilled Housing Specialist to join our team. This role plays a crucial part in helping individuals with psychiatric and substance use disorders achieve their goals of securing and maintaining independent housing.
Job OverviewThis position requires a strong understanding of the housing and subsidy process, as well as expertise in facilitating movement into permanent independent housing. The ideal candidate will have experience in managing affordable housing and/or housing support services.
Key Responsibilities:- Engage with clients to improve their health and wellness, achieve symptom stabilization, and develop skills impacted by mental illness.
- Assist clients in identifying personal priorities, preferences, strengths, and interests to establish goals that support a life in recovery.
- Provide direct care services in timely and flexible ways to meet client needs.
- Participate in the development and implementation of Safety Plans and Crisis Prevention and Response Plans to mitigate risk factors.
- Facilitate informed decision-making by educating clients about laws and regulations affecting their housing status and subsidies.
- Act as liaison with DMH, staff, family members, advocates, and local, state, and federal housing staff and programs as needed.
- Education: High School Diploma/GED equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree highly preferred.
- Experience: Experience in managing affordable housing and/or housing support services required.
- Skills: Must have Driver's license and be MAP certified and CPR/1st aid certified within three months of hire.
The estimated salary for this position is $56,340, based on experience. The benefits package includes:
