Key Responsibilities of the Business Lending Specialist:

  • • Accepts applications for business loans, evaluates customer financial health by reviewing credit reports and necessary documentation, and assesses the customer's capacity to repay the loan. Provides underwriting recommendations to senior management. Completes or oversees the completion of all loan documentation and facilitates loan closings.
    • Engages in the development of lending and deposit opportunities for the institution. Actively reaches out to clients to grow existing business and seeks new prospects to broaden the client base.
    • Oversees the existing loan portfolio to ensure a high-quality asset base. Maintains current client files, including balance sheets, profit and loss statements, cash flow forecasts, and all loan documentation.
    • Collects standard fees associated with all loans.
    • Aids in the collection of overdue loans.
    • Assists clients with inquiries and concerns related to loans.
    • Independently manages intermediate to moderately complex business loan credit evaluations and structures.
    • Achieves assigned loan volume targets as established by management.
    • Ensures the quality of the loan portfolio is maintained.
    • Maintains an acceptable delinquency rate for the loan portfolio as determined by management and institutional policy.
    • Collects standard fee income on portfolio loans and fees on sold loans.
    • Ensures compliance with established policies and legal regulations in lending operations.
    • Fosters a professional, courteous, and welcoming environment for clients and colleagues.

Qualifications for the Business Lending Specialist:

    • 5-10 years of combined experience in credit evaluation, lending, business development, and sales.
    • A degree in finance, accounting, banking, or equivalent experience in the financial services sector.
    • Completion of initial Advanced Commercial Lending School, Graduate Banking School, or Certified Community Lender Certification.
    • The ability to influence and motivate others is essential, requiring a high level of diplomacy and trust. Gaining cooperation from internal and external stakeholders is a critical aspect of the role.
    • Strong experience in analyzing business financial statements and evaluating business viability.
    • Excellent communication and public relations skills.
    • Proficient computer skills (Word, Excel) and the ability to learn and effectively use relevant lending software.
    • Capability to manage multiple projects with varying deadlines.
    • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
    • Willingness to participate in civic and/or professional organizations.
    • Demonstrated intermediate-level sales skills and abilities for developing new business relationships.
