ROLE SUMMARY
The primary objective of this role is to assist adults with developmental challenges in enhancing their autonomy through the application of Assistive Technology. This encompasses the creation of communication aids that vary from simple solutions to advanced AAC devices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Performance evaluation for this role is predominantly based on the execution of the following essential functions, which include, but are not limited to:
For individuals and families without direct service needs:
- Conducting screenings and assessments related to speech, language, swallowing, cognitive communication, augmentative and alternative communication, and hearing (screening only).
Designing treatment plans for specific individuals and/or small groups, which includes:
b. Formulating Intervention strategies for individuals or small groups;
c. Providing education and training sessions for families, caregivers, and professionals;
d. Delivering direct services using various service delivery models;
e. Monitoring and summarizing data from treatment programs;
f. Offering follow-up services to maintain and enhance skills;
g. Completing necessary documentation as required.
- Providing education and guidance to individuals, families, colleagues, managers, and others as needed, while advocating for individuals to promote full engagement and enhance quality of life.
- Assisting in crisis management when necessary.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant federal and state regulations, professional standards, and organizational policies, including DODD regulations and standards set by the Ohio Board of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
- Participating in Individual Plan meetings and/or making recommendations for programming to the team, drafting objectives, discussing implementation methods, identifying required materials, and executing treatment or training others.
- Performing additional duties and responsibilities as appropriate for the position and essential for the safe operation of the program.
- Adhering to safety and health regulations, including but not limited to OSHA standards.
- Executing other related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications: Master's Degree in Speech Pathology from an accredited institution.
Experience: Preferred experience, but Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) opportunities available.
For instance:
One year of experience providing pediatric speech/language services. Not applicable to applicants from within the WEA1 bargaining unit. May be required to complete a Supervised Professional Experience within 12 months of hire, if necessary for licensure.
Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Capable of operating job-related equipment, including basic computer programs and systems. Ability to read, comprehend, and communicate information and ideas presented in writing. Utilize mathematical skills to resolve issues.

First Aid/CPR Certification Required: Yes
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPECTATIONS
Knowledge: Proficient in computer usage and applicable software (MS Word/Outlook), with the ability to operate general office equipment. Must possess a solid understanding of behavior support, individualized service plans, person-centered planning, and the medical, psychosocial, orthopedic, and psychiatric aspects of disability, client rights, waivers, benefits, self-determination, and HIPAA. Familiarity with relevant statutes, regulatory standards, and reporting authorities. Good working knowledge of developmental disabilities programs, services, and community resources.
Skills: Ability to analyze information obtained from assessments and make programming recommendations. Capacity to respond to crisis situations using approved techniques and follow-up procedures. Ability to assess situations involving clients and respond appropriately, ensuring proper documentation and notification of relevant parties. Effectively manage time to meet operational needs and desired outcomes, planning and organizing steps for new project implementation. Listen, comprehend, and communicate information and ideas effectively. Work independently with minimal supervision. Maintain strict confidentiality. Collaborate as part of a team and engage effectively with individuals and communities from diverse cultural, social, and ethnic backgrounds. Perform effectively under pressure.
Other Expectations: Report unusual incidents and significant unusual incidents. Complete all required training and maintain strict confidentiality. Regular attendance is mandatory. Maintain relevant records in accordance with appropriate retention guidelines and policies. Adhere to health and safety policies and procedures. Must have reliable transportation for community travel responsibilities. Must be reachable by personal cell phone during working hours.
