Key Responsibilities

Program Insights

Multisystemic Therapy (MST) is a proven therapeutic approach tailored to deliver community-centered treatment for families of adolescents who are engaged with, or at risk of engaging with, the juvenile justice system. The goal is to minimize the likelihood of out-of-home placements. MST emphasizes treating youth (ages 12-17) within their natural environments by addressing the various systemic factors influencing their behaviors across family, peer, educational, and community contexts. As an MST Family Counselor, you will collaborate with primary caregivers and other key stakeholders to devise and execute interventions aimed at enhancing school attendance and performance, reducing substance use, fostering positive social connections, and improving family dynamics.

Role Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of 4-5 families, requiring intensive treatment with a minimum of three weekly meetings per family.
  • Create personalized treatment plans for each case, conducting ongoing assessments and regular reviews of treatment progress.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of all sessions within a designated timeframe, utilizing web-based documentation systems with voice-recognition technology available at most locations.
  • Provide after-hours support to youth and families through a rotating on-call schedule.
  • Travel up to 60-80 miles to conduct home visits with families.
  • Deliver treatment in the homes of families across diverse settings and communities.
  • Engage in close collaboration with various forms of clinical supervision in both individual and group formats, led by trained and licensed MST professionals, with frequent progress reviews.
  • Establish strong community connections and resources to support families as part of the treatment process.

Additional Information

The schedule is flexible and non-traditional, designed around the availability of the youth and families served. Candidates must possess a valid driver's license, a personal vehicle for work purposes, and auto insurance. Community-based staff will be reimbursed for applicable mileage.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements

A Master's degree in a social services field is preferred, while a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is mandatory.

Acceptable degrees include social work, drug and alcohol education or counseling, psychology, criminal justice, guidance counseling, or marriage and family therapy. Other degrees will be assessed to determine qualification compliance.

Experience with at-risk youth and/or families in volunteer, internship, or paid roles is essential; clinical experience is highly valued.

A willingness and desire to maintain a non-traditional schedule is required.

Strong writing skills and familiarity with electronic documentation are necessary. An acceptable driving record is defined as three or fewer moving violations within the past 36 months.

Benefits

Comprehensive medical, dental, prescription drug coverage, and vision benefits.

401(k) plan, two weeks of paid vacation, twelve paid sick days annually, and eleven paid holidays.

Paid parental leave, mileage and cell phone reimbursement (when applicable).
