KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF A WINDSHEAR TEST CELL OPERATOR:

Responsibilities will evolve based on individual expertise. Required skills include mechanical and electrical maintenance, instrumentation, calibration, and knowledge of automotive mechanics and the racing sector.

The technician will be versatile and expected to assist in all operational functions, including:

  • Operating the test cell
  • Ensuring the quality of vehicle instrumentation
  • Installing test vehicles in the facility
  • Setting up test hardware on vehicles
  • Providing general test support activities
  • Programming automated test procedures using wind tunnel control software
  • Conducting mechanical assembly and maintenance tasks.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

A minimum of two (2) years of college coursework in engineering, automotive technology, skilled trades, or related fields, along with two (2) years of relevant experience. Additional education may substitute for some experience.

Essential skills for this position include:

  • Vehicle Mechanics: Proficiency in vehicle chassis setup for wind tunnel testing, including tire changes, shock/strut replacements, and component installations. A solid understanding of vehicle suspension, hydraulic systems, motors, and mechanical devices is required.
  • Fabrication: Familiarity with machine shop tools for constructing and assembling fixtures and components, including lathes, mills, brakes, shears, drill presses, and band saws.
  • Maintenance: Support for mechanical and/or electrical/instrumentation maintenance tasks.
  • Test Operations and Data Acquisition: Knowledge of instrumentation, controls, and data acquisition systems to facilitate wind tunnel operations and test sequence programming (Lab View experience or equivalent is advantageous).
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and file management is essential; additional skills in database programming and networking are a plus.
  • Team Collaboration: Willingness to work collaboratively within a team and assume leadership roles in designated tasks.
  • Troubleshooting: Ability to systematically identify and resolve problems.
  • Customer Service Orientation: Strong communication skills and a customer-focused attitude are essential.
