Job Description

The Department of Computer Science at Virginia Tech invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions in computational biology and bioinformatics (CBB) and related areas. The positions are expected to be offered to a tenure-track assistant professor; exceptional candidates with qualifications appropriate to a tenured associate professor position will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research in computational biology and bioinformatics, with a focus on infectious diseases and pandemic prediction.
  • Develop and teach courses in computer science and engineering, with a focus on computational biology and bioinformatics.
  • Collaborate with faculty from various disciplines to advance the department's research and teaching mission.
  • Participate in the activities of the Pandemic Prediction and Prevention Destination Areas initiative, including collaborating on research projects and proposals and co-mentoring students and post-doctoral fellows.
Requirements
  • PhD in Computer Science or a related field at the time of appointment.
  • Rank-appropriate record of scholarship and collaboration in computing research.
  • Ability to contribute to the department's teaching mission, at both graduate and undergraduate levels.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated interest in collaborative research in fields represented by department's existing faculty or planned hiring.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work collaboratively with faculty from a variety of disciplines.
  • Contributions to improving the diversity of the discipline and experience in working effectively with a diverse student population.
