Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of safety policies and procedures that mitigate risks and ensure adherence to local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, IOSHA, MSHA, DOT, NFPA, and EPA.
  • Oversee and enforce safety protocols at project sites, identifying hazards and implementing corrective actions to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Support project managers and field teams by providing guidance on safety practices, hazard assessments, and employee training related to safe equipment operation and material handling.
  • Ensure that all new hires receive comprehensive safety training before commencing work.
  • Consult with the safety director regarding compliance issues and proactive safety measures.
  • Conduct training sessions for employees on safe work practices tailored to specific job functions and site requirements.
  • Facilitate quarterly Safety Committee meetings to discuss safety initiatives and improvements.
  • Maintain accurate safety documentation and records for compliance and review purposes.
  • Perform regular safety inspections, documenting findings and recommending necessary corrective actions, while ensuring follow-up on implementation.
  • Investigate accidents, preparing detailed reports that identify potential causes and safety hazards, and submit findings promptly to the safety director.
  • Assist in evaluating and enhancing existing safety programs to align with best practices.
  • While this position does not involve direct supervision, it requires providing direction to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of five years of experience in field safety management, preferably within the construction MEP sector, with a solid understanding of OSHA, DOT, NFPA, and EPA regulations. A Bachelor's Degree in a safety-related field is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Proven knowledge of construction safety fundamentals, accident prevention strategies, and risk management techniques.
  • OSHA Outreach Trainer certification is required, along with a 30-hour OSHA certification.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively engage with trades, subcontractors, supervisors, project managers, and clients.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks with attention to detail.
