Job Title: Correctional Officer

Job Summary

As a Correctional Officer, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff and inmates at our adult jail facility. You will be responsible for enforcing disciplinary sanctions, maintaining appropriate boundaries with inmates, and responding to emergencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform security rounds and enforce disciplinary sanctions
  • Maintain a cell block atmosphere conducive to respect of others
  • Initiate and monitor inmate movement, recognizing abnormal or inappropriate behavior
  • Restraining unruly inmates using force and restraining devices
  • Respond to emergencies, including medical emergencies
  • Document incidents, movement, rounds, and inmate discipline
  • Perform person, property, and facility searches
  • Read, comprehend, and process legal and non-legal documents
  • Operate department computer program and dictate/retype reports
  • Communicate effectively with the public, staff, inmates, and in court or other formal settings
  • Attend and participate in shift briefings, division, and department meetings
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must possess a high level of multi-tasking skills, integrity, good physical fitness, and the ability to communicate well both written and verbally. You must also be able to handle multiple tasks at a time and perform additional duties as assigned.

Selection Process

The selection process for this position includes a physical agility test, written exam, panel interview, background investigation, psychological evaluation, and medical evaluation. Candidates must pass all medical, physical, written, and psychological examinations to be considered for the position.
