Position Title: Substance Abuse Counselor I
Work Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week
Compensation: Pay Grade B7 ($22.21 - $31.55 per hour based on experience)
Bilingual Preference: Additional 10% wage for Spanish-speaking candidates
Role SummaryThe Substance Abuse Counselor I is responsible for delivering culturally sensitive and effective outpatient treatment for individuals dealing with alcohol and drug issues. This role is aligned with the mission and values of Community Counseling Solutions (CCS) and adheres to the Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs). The counselor collaborates with community partners and maintains professionalism in all service interactions, contributing to the community's treatment needs.
Supervision StructureReports To: Addictions Clinical Supervisor, Clinical Manager
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not oversee other staff members.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct thorough assessments for alcohol and drug treatment and develop personalized service plans.
- Facilitate individual, group, and family therapy sessions, ensuring comprehensive treatment delivery.
- Engage in collaborative case planning with agency staff and act as a liaison for clients with external agencies.
- Participate in supervision sessions and contribute to program development and evaluation.
- Provide educational resources on substance abuse and behavioral health to community stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with OARs and agency guidelines.
- Attend relevant training and meetings to enhance professional knowledge and agency effectiveness.
- Transport clients as necessary and administer urinalysis testing, ensuring proper procedures are followed.
- Report any suspected abuse and develop safety plans as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education: High school diploma required. Must pass a criminal history background check.
Experience: Candidates in recovery must demonstrate continuous abstinence for the past two years.
Certifications: Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor Certification-level I.
Skills and CompetenciesSuccessful candidates will possess knowledge of mental health and addiction challenges, effective communication skills, and the ability to work independently. They should be capable of building respectful relationships with clients and families and have a solid understanding of the recovery model. Proficiency in computer systems and confidentiality regulations is essential.
Additional RequirementsBackground Checks: Must comply with all criminal history check requirements as per ORS and OAR.
Insurance: Valid driver's license and personal auto insurance are mandatory for job-related travel.
Work EnvironmentThis role is performed in both office and community settings, with occasional remote work. The counselor may encounter various noise levels and must be prepared for unpredictable environments, including potential crisis situations.
