Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Air Conditioning Mechanic II to join our team at Georgia State University. As a key member of our Facilities Management Services department, you will be responsible for the repair and installation of refrigeration, air conditioning, and heating equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform skilled manual work involving the repair and installation of refrigeration, air conditioning, and heating equipment.
  • Overhaul and service refrigeration, air conditioning, and heating units by repairing or replacing worn parts.
  • Inspect equipment for needed repairs and perform routine maintenance.
  • Test refrigeration units for leaks; add gas to refrigeration units.
  • Monitor valves and gages to ensure proper operation; adjust valves, pipes, etc., as needed.
  • Change and clean oil and air filters.
  • Operate Centrifugal and Reciprocating chillers.
  • Assist in installing air conditioning and heating units, and related equipment.
  • May assist in training lower-level employees.
  • Clean work areas and equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Technical or vocational degree and two years of HVAC experience, a high school diploma or GED and four years of HVAC experience, or a combination of education and related experience.
  • Knowledge of procedures, tools, and equipment used in the HVAC trade.
  • Practical oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to access confined spaces.
  • Ability to work in open areas, such as rooftops, etc.
  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolds.
  • Ability to operate tools and equipment used in the HVAC trade.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Ability to multi-task, pay attention to detail, train and supervise staff, lift approximately 50 pounds, exhibit excellent customer service, and interpret building drawings.
