Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Pharmacy Technician Compounding to join our team at Methodist Hospital Specialty and Transplant. As a Pharmacy Technician Compounding, you will play a vital role in the processing, preparation, and dispensing of patient medication orders. You will work under the direct supervision of a pharmacist and assist in the compounding of sterile preparations, including chemotherapy and total parenteral nutrition.

Responsibilities

As a Pharmacy Technician Compounding, your responsibilities will include:
  • Filling medication orders accurately and safely in the pharmacy
  • Compounding and labeling medications and parenteral admixtures
  • Performing required calculations and utilizing aseptic techniques in the preparation of parenteral compounding
  • Complying with USP 797 shift/daily/monthly requirements
  • Obtaining a final check from the pharmacist before releasing any prepared parenteral compounds
  • Processing medication returns and restocking to the pharmacy
  • Packaging and preparing medications for dispensing as assigned
  • Transporting medications and other pharmacy supplies in a timely manner
  • Performing daily ADC routines, including restocks, outdates, discrepancy resolution, loading and unloading, etc.
  • Replenishing ADCs, emergency cart trays, and floor stock accurately and in a timely manner
  • Troubleshooting ADC issues and providing basic technical support for automated dispensing machines and other pharmacy computer systems
  • Performing routine manufacturing and prepackaging, maintaining accurate and complete record logs
  • Ensuring that a pharmacist checks all work
  • Receiving and checking in of medication/supply orders
  • Notifying the pharmacy inventory manager of products that need to be reordered, shortages, overages, and damaged product
  • Assisting in the management of drug supplies in a cost-effective manner and identifying opportunities to minimize waste
  • Identifying critical issues, prioritizing workload, and communicating to appropriate personnel any issues in a timely manner
  • Interacting with hospital personnel in a polite and respectful manner
  • Performing unit/area inspections and expiration date checking when scheduled and submitting appropriate documentation when completed

Requirements

To be successful as a Pharmacy Technician Compounding, you will need:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent education
  • Completion of a course sponsored by an ACPE provider which provides 40 hours of instruction and experience and meets Texas Board of Pharmacy requirements to compound sterile products
  • Hospital experience and one year minimum sterile compounding experience preferred
  • Current Registered Pharmacy Technician by the State Board of Pharmacy or Intern Certification with the Texas Board of Pharmacy
