Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Physician III Staff Physician to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our medical services department, you will be responsible for providing high-quality medical care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who reside in our state-supported living centers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose and treat individuals with complex medical, psychiatric, and/or behavioral health needs.
  • Develop and implement individualized health care plans with measurable goals and objectives.
  • Provide direction and guidance to the treatment team to ensure the delivery of high-quality medical services.
  • Monitor the health care trends of individuals and update treatment strategies and plans as indicated.
  • Ensure medical treatment is properly integrated and coordinated with other healthcare providers.
  • Write prescriptions and perform medication reviews within the scope of your licensing credentials and training expertise.
  • Report any significant trends or issues to your supervisor and provide suggestions for action based on your expertise.
  • Perform or refer out specialized medical treatments and procedures as needed.
  • Coordinate with specialty clinics and oversee the treatment provided to ensure integration.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of methods and procedures in the field of general medicine and of the principles of individualized care and treatment plans.
  • Knowledge of medical jurisprudence and ICF-IID standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with nurses, direct care staff, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Ability to evaluate patients and implement an effective course of treatment in coordination with other interdisciplinary personnel.
  • Ability to maintain required continuing medical education hours.
Working Conditions:

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to respond to campus medical emergencies as needed. You will be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift, and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy.
