Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Food Service Assistant to join our team at Community Action Partnership Lancaster and Saunders Counties. As a Food Service Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting our early childhood program by ensuring the preparation and serving of healthy meals and snacks to our children and families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Meal Service: Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and/or afternoon snacks to classrooms, following USDA meal requirements and allergy/food restrictions.
  • Cleanliness and Sanitation: Clean and sanitize kitchen utensils and equipment, and food preparation areas according to sanitary codes.
  • Food Handling and Storage: Label, store, and dispose of food per regulations.
  • Nutrition Education: Support efforts of Early Head Start and Head Start staff to educate children and families on best nutrition and health practices.
  • Consultation and Collaboration: Consult with staff on nutrition projects, healthy eating habits for children, family style meals, and/or CACFP guidelines.
Requirements
  • Education: High School diploma or GED required.
  • Experience: One year of experience in food service work preferred.
  • Certifications: Current Food Handlers Permit required.
  • Communication: Ability to read, write, and communicate English effectively is required.
