Accounting Operations Manager

As a key member of the Wisconsin Community Services team, the Accounting Operations Manager will oversee all day-to-day accounting operations and supervise a staff of financial professionals.
Key responsibilities include ensuring that all financial practices, systems, and internal controls are in place to support effective program implementation and conduct flawless audits.
The successful candidate will work closely with WCS leadership and staff to educate them on accounting procedures and explore how the accounting functions can support program operations.
Established accounting practices will be used to ensure timeliness and reliability of financial information, and the candidate will assist with maintenance of internal financial controls and safeguards for all programs.
Supervising accounting staff and activities, including general ledger accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and grants administration, is also a key aspect of this role.
The Accounting Operations Manager will analyze and interpret financial data to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate, and recommend changes to improve systems and financial performance.
Regular meetings with WCS leadership will be held to review financial status of programs, and the candidate will be responsible for oversight of all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems to ensure compliance with GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
Leading the development and monitoring of budgets, forecasts, and financial plans is also a key responsibility, as is ensuring that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period.
Periodic internal audits will be performed to monitor and confirm financial condition and ensure compliance with internal controls.
The successful candidate will provide training, guidance, and direction to employees to ensure work is performed in an efficient, timely, and knowledgeable manner.
Evaluating departmental performance and making adjustments to daily operations when needed to ensure the department meets overall goals and objectives is also a key aspect of this role.
Additional responsibilities include overseeing preparation of federal and unemployment quarterly reports, state payroll reports, W2s, and 1099s.
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of and adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and specifically non-profit accounting principles and applications.
Advanced skills in working with Excel spreadsheets and accounting software are also required, as is high proficiency in utilization of Microsoft Office and other business software.
Familiarity with Office of Management and Budget (OMB) operating and reporting requirements is also necessary, as is knowledge of financial data analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
The successful candidate will also be able to conceptualize project funding structures and have a high level of emotional intelligence and maturity.
Ability to manage a department and supervise staff is also essential, as is a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration, with a CPA and/or advanced degree in business-related field strongly preferred.
The Accounting Operations Manager will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and work closely with the CEO, Vice Presidents, and Administrators.
Supervising Accountants, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll staff is also a key responsibility, and the candidate must operate with the highest level of integrity and honesty, with an obligation to disclose any and all process flaws or breaches in financial procedures.
Adhering to established policies and procedures of the agency and of all funding sources, maintaining professional and respectful relationships with program staff, other WCS staff, participants, and all external persons and agencies involved with service provision, and sensitivity toward cultural, ethnic, and disability issues are also essential.
The successful candidate will work in a professional office environment and be required to enter data into computing devices via keyboards, with the use of sensory skills to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact.
Hand and finger dexterity for data entry is also required.
