We are currently seeking a seasoned Chemical Engineer to join our Materials Manufacturing team within the Fuel and Poison Materials (FPM) unit. This unit is dedicated to the research and evaluation of nuclear fuel materials, encompassing test design, specimen fabrication, manufacturing development, and characterization.

The primary focus of this role is to deliver fuel systems that enhance core performance objectives while improving quality and reducing costs. The FPM unit manages various development contracts with external partners to fulfill this mission. This dynamic and innovative environment spans from development to laboratory and factory deployment, requiring a diverse set of skills that directly impact our programs.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with engineering, laboratory, facility, and compliance teams to facilitate and execute test programs.
  • Develop and fabricate unique material systems, including small-scale production demonstrations and factory installations.
  • Optimize process parameters for small-scale production demonstrations and factory testing.
  • Plan, design, model, analyze, manufacture, and deploy laboratory equipment, including nuclear, chemical, mechanical, structural, and electrical components.
  • Document progress, analyze results, and deliver presentations as required.
  • Travel occasionally to domestic vendors (approximately 3 to 6 times per year).

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in engineering or a science-related field from an accredited institution, accompanied by 6 years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree with 4 years of relevant experience; or a PhD with 1 year of relevant experience; or equivalent qualifications in nuclear operations.

Preferred Skills:

This position is aimed at engineers interested in the research, development, and deployment of equipment and facilities for the production of novel nuclear materials, components, and systems. Preferred qualifications include:

  • A degree in Chemical Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, or Materials Science and Engineering.
  • Experience in materials science, control systems, and chemical engineering.
  • Proficiency in data analytics, statistical design of experiments, and machine learning.
  • Software programming skills in LabVIEW and Python.
  • Familiarity with core material and manufacturing technical areas.
  • Experience in vendor contract management and production oversight.

Pay Range:

The annual salary for this position ranges from $92,000 to $145,200, based on experience and qualifications.
