Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Recreation Coordinator to join our team at the Addison Park District. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and facilitating activities within our preschool program, working closely with children, department supervisors, and staff to ensure a safe and engaging environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate daily activities and scheduling within the preschool program
  • Lead and/or teach various activities within the preschool program
  • Communicate weekly schedules to preschool instructors and ensure proper coverage and backup support
  • Act as a preschool instructor, delivering curriculum for 2-, 3-, and 4-year-old preschool programs as needed
  • Coordinate summer camp activities and scheduling with the Recreation Coordinator, Youth Camps
  • Purchase necessary program supplies and manage expenditures
  • Assist with performance evaluations, interviewing candidates, and acting as a first point of contact for concerned staff
  • Act as a liaison between parents, children, and staff, answering program questions and registering participants
  • Utilize problem-solving skills to mitigate issues with parents or children
  • Work closely with parents to promote an understanding of child development
  • Inspect and recommend program equipment repairs and improvements
  • Assist in interpreting resident needs and delivering programs to meet those needs
  • Promote and encourage participation in the program
  • Help plan, develop, and implement the preschool program and summer preschool program
  • Assist with special events and activities
  • Complete basic paperwork in a timely and orderly fashion
  • Participate in staff training and workshops
  • Assist with emergency procedures and building evacuation
  • Enforce all rules and regulations set forth by the Park District and Recreation Supervisor
  • Ensure children are supervised at all times
  • Prepare and submit weekly lesson plans
  • Attend field trips as needed
  • Assist with other recreation programs as assigned
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Must be age 18 or over
  • Prior experience working with children, ages K-8th Grade, preferred
  • Ability to obtain CPR/AED/First Aid certification upon hire
  • Valid State of Illinois driver's license required
  • Must successfully pass state Driver's Abstract Review and Criminal background screening

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
  • Work area is indoors and outdoors at all park district locations
  • Frequent exposure to natural and potentially extreme weather conditions
  • Exposure to noise distractions from employees, patrons, or equipment operation
  • Lifting up to 25 pounds, occasional climbing, sitting, stooping, kneeling, reaching
  • Frequent walking, standing, driving
