Job Overview
Optimus is in search of a meticulous and organized Staff Mechanical Engineer to join our team.

This is a full-time salaried role with a competitive compensation package, including benefits. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in heavy-duty truck and/or automotive engineering, control systems, and regulatory compliance.

Travel is a component of this role, requiring approximately 10-20% of work time to gain hands-on experience with the practical application and long-term operation of the Vector System.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop various components of the Vector System throughout its implementation, manufacturing, and production phases.
- Utilize both OEM and internally generated data to inform component design.
- Support installation and ongoing upgrades/troubleshooting by visiting client locations for hands-on implementation.
- Collaborate and exchange technical information with colleagues and relevant third-party vendors.
- Employ critical thinking to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions and approaches to challenges.
- Develop testing and production plans for new products and components.
- Provide mentorship to junior team members.
- Maintain accurate records of work time in a tracking application.
- Identify system inefficiencies and devise corrective action plans.
- Create work instructions for assembly and quality testing.
- Lead design review meetings and conference calls with manufacturers, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Complete all project and design documentation for inclusion in installation manuals and product materials.
- Read, interpret, and utilize relevant technical drawings, schematics, electrical diagrams, and manuals to finalize component design.

Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Over 7 years of experience in electro-mechanical engineering, particularly in automotive product design, development, and/or manufacturing.
- Familiarity with advanced systems controls, calibration, and associated software (e.g., Simulink, INCA, Calterm).
- Knowledge of industry standards and the ability to create test plans based on sound engineering judgment.
- Understanding of regulatory compliance is advantageous.
- Strong aptitude for mechanical and electrical systems.
- Ability to comprehend detailed product schematics and documentation.
- Experience drafting technical documents (samples available upon request).
- Proficient in computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite and CAD software (e.g., AutoDesk, Solidworks, Onshape) and a willingness to learn new software as needed.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
- Proven ability to work independently and manage pressure with minimal supervision.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills for prioritizing, scheduling, and time management.
