About the Position

This position is located at a Military Treatment Facility under the Defense Health Agency. The selected candidate will be responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing, and overhauling large air conditioning systems, as well as performing light machinist work and diagnosing and repairing problems with ventilation equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot and repair air conditioning systems, including heating, cooling, dehumidifying, and controls for humidifying, cleaning, filtering, and circulation.
  • Maintain and repair ventilation equipment, including air handling units, fan coil units, exhaust fans, circulating fans, and fresh air fans.
  • Perform light machinist work, such as making bearings, shafts, and valve parts, fan brackets, motor bases, etc.
  • Diagnose and repair problems with air conditioning systems, including leaks in lines, dirty or worn points, faulty valves, etc.
  • Test and adjust pressure for efficient operation and correct temperatures.
Requirements
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Universal EPA Refrigerant certification.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license and any installation or DOD operator's permit requirement for the type of equipment operated.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment and annual physical examination.
Working Conditions

Work is performed outside, in all types of weather. Subject to sudden temperature changes and extreme cold during repair of large walk-in refrigerators and in mechanical rooms having extreme temperatures. Exposed to possibility of broken bones from falls from ladders and scaffolds. Exposed to possibility of injury from electrical current. Exposed to cleaning chemicals. Protective devices such as but not limited to earplugs, safety glasses, respirators, gloves, hard hat, and safety shoes are required. Long trousers or coveralls and shirt or tee shirt with sleeves are worn.
