GENERAL OVERVIEW:

The Aquatic Safety Attendant position allows candidates to undergo complimentary training and education, with the expectation of fulfilling the training costs through hours worked in the aquatic program. Candidates must successfully complete the pre-lifeguard water screening test and, upon enrollment, fulfill all requirements of the American Red Cross lifeguarding course. As a representative of Warren County Parks and Recreation, employees are expected to adhere to all lifeguard responsibilities.

SEASONAL: 10-35 Hours Per Week

Admission Requirements:

1. Complete the online application process.

2. Coordinate with Parks and Recreation staff to schedule necessary appointments.

3. Successfully complete the following assessments:

a. Swim 300 yards using freestyle and breaststroke without stopping (flip turns are not required).

b. Tread water for 2 minutes without using arms or hands.

c. Swim 20 yards, dive down 10 feet to retrieve a 10lb diving brick, hold it under your chin using both hands, and kick back to the starting point while on your back, exiting the water in under 1 minute and 40 seconds.

4. Present identification as required for the water screening test.

5. Complete all employment paperwork in a thorough and timely manner.

6. Pass a background check and drug screening.

7. Successfully complete the lifeguard class requirements.

8. Accumulate 80 hours of paid employment within one year of completing the lifeguard class with Warren County Parks and Recreation.

9. If unable to complete the 80 hours, reimburse Warren County for the cost of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Class.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Attend scheduled in-service training sessions at the designated recreation complex;
  • Maintain punctuality for all scheduled shifts;
  • Demonstrate responsibility in job performance and quality of work;
  • Communicate effectively with Pool Managers and Supervisors;
  • Present a professional appearance at all times;
  • Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations;
  • Conduct daily inspections of the facility and report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the supervisor;
  • Complete necessary records and reports;
  • Engage in regular exercise to maintain physical fitness (strength and endurance);
  • Monitor patrons to ensure their safety and perform rescue measures as required;
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Candidates must be at least 15 years old and pass the pre-test to enroll in the lifeguard certification course.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Strong decision-making skills are essential. Current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer is required. Other lifeguarding certifications may also be considered.
