Senior Prosecutor for Anti-Corruption Initiatives

Washington, Virginia, United States Department Of Justice Full time
Position Overview
The Department of Justice is seeking a highly qualified prosecutor and litigator to join its anti-corruption initiative within the Criminal Division.

This role is integral to the Department's Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Initiative, which focuses on addressing large-scale international corruption, thwarting criminal networks from undermining the U.S. financial system, and recovering assets linked to foreign official corruption.

The mission encompasses the recovery of misappropriated assets for the benefit of those adversely affected by corruption. To date, prosecutors have initiated numerous criminal and civil actions across the United States, addressing cases involving the misappropriation of billions of dollars from various governments and state-owned entities, alongside significant international bribery and kickback schemes.

Notable cases include the extensive $4.5 billion embezzlement scheme related to 1MDB, a sovereign wealth fund of Malaysia, and an $18 million bribery case involving the President of Panama and his associates, funded by the Brazilian firm Odebrecht. Additionally, there are ongoing investigations into foreign bankers implicated in laundering funds for Odebrecht and various corruption cases spanning countries such as Nigeria, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Panama, Ukraine, and Honduras.

Our trial attorneys are also actively engaged in investigations and prosecutions as part of the Task Force KleptoCapture, established to address sanctions evasion related to international conflicts.

In collaboration with federal law enforcement partners, our attorneys have successfully seized significant assets, including a $300 million yacht and two Boeing jets, while securing convictions in high-profile cases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducting complex and sensitive criminal and civil investigations targeting high-level foreign corruption and international money laundering schemes.
  • Working collaboratively with foreign prosecutors and law enforcement agencies, as well as U.S. Attorneys' Offices and various sections within the Criminal Division.
  • Recommending charging decisions and proposing case dispositions in alignment with departmental policies.
  • Managing criminal and civil discovery processes, preparing for trial, and representing cases in federal courts nationwide.
  • Fostering strategic international partnerships and treaty relationships with foreign authorities.
  • Overseeing the repatriation of funds to states impacted by corruption.

The Department of Justice is dedicated to ensuring a diverse and inclusive work environment, reflecting the varied experiences and perspectives of the American populace. We encourage applicants from all backgrounds who share our commitment to public service.

Qualifications
  • Must possess a J.D. or equivalent degree and be licensed to practice law in any U.S. jurisdiction.
  • At least four years of post-J.D. legal experience, including specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct legal analysis, draft legal documents, and manage complex litigation.
  • Preferred qualifications include substantial federal criminal prosecution experience and the ability to supervise legal support staff.

The Department of Justice is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to providing reasonable accommodations to applicants with disabilities when necessary.
