About College Board

College Board is a mission-driven not-for-profit organization that connects students to college success and opportunity. Founded in 1900, College Board was created to expand access to higher education. Today, the membership association is made up of over 6,000 of the world's leading educational institutions and is dedicated to promoting excellence and equity in education.

Each year, College Board helps more than seven million students prepare for a successful transition to college through programs and services in college readiness and college success—including the SAT, the Advanced Placement Program, and BigFuture. The organization also serves the education community through research and advocacy on behalf of students, educators, and schools.

About Career Kickstart

Career Kickstart (CK) is a new career-focused program that leads to credentials and college credit for all students who want to prepare for a career, whether they are heading to 2- or 4- year colleges, technical schools, or the workforce. With a focus on high-demand fields like cybersecurity and health sciences, CK brings the best of AP to courses designed for career and technical education.

CK courses are powered by the AP features that educators value: robust teacher training, dedicated educator communities, free student resources, high quality assessments, and the broadest national network of college credit policies. Students want more career exploration in high school to help them turn a passion into a profession, but many lack access to quality career-focused programs that lead to in-demand jobs. College Board is building Career Kickstart in partnership with industry and higher education to assure national access to outstanding career education that today is only available in some communities. College Board's aim is to clear a path for all students to own their future, saving them time and money.

About the Opportunity

As the Director of Medical Assistant Pathway, you will be a catalyst for change in expanding and diversifying the health science talent pipeline and creating opportunities for students to own their futures. You are an experienced health science course designer and teacher at the high school level, or at the post-secondary level with high school experience/interaction. You are excited to apply your experience and knowledge with health science education to a role where you will design, pilot, launch, and manage a new Career Kickstart medical assistant pathway program for high school students.

You will also be responsible for the development and revision of instructional materials to ensure all courses are engaging and relevant for students. You will collaborate on assessment design and items, as well as provide input on formative and summative assessment strategies. Your deep commitment to educational equity and the potential of all students will be a major asset as you work to ensure the medical assistant course is designed to serve a diverse group of hundreds of thousands of high school students.

Your experience providing consultation and implementing processes and strategies allows you to work effectively with teachers, higher education faculty, employers, and workforce committees, and a diverse set of advisors to refine the course content, develop instructional and assessment materials, and train teachers.

  • Survey the high school offerings, industry/workforce labor needs, IRC market, and design a Medical Assistant pathway for high school students
  • Build a standing advisory committee – made up of K-12 leaders, higher education professors, and industry experts – to provide input and advice on the course and the associated assessment, instructional materials, and teacher training.

  • Support workstreams to ensure product/program delivers exceptional user experience to students, educators, and schools.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure program vision is translated into key policy design choices and technical requirements, and that development roadmap stays on track.
  • Responsible for designing, writing, updating, and maintaining the Course Exam Description (CED) in alignment with industry and higher education standards, ensuring it is relevant and valuable to students taking the course.
  • Coordinate a broad coalition of stakeholders – including expert high school teachers, industry experts, and higher education leaders – to ensure the pathway and assessment meet state standards and align to secondary, postsecondary, and industry needs and requirements.
  • Collaborate with external curriculum development providers to ensure curriculum materials are aligned with course content and skills, support the overarching pathway goals, and provide high quality materials for teachers and students.
  • Plan and deliver high quality in-person professional learning to support teachers from a wide range of backgrounds in successfully teaching the courses in the pathway in collaboration with the instruction team.
  • Develop high quality instructional lesson plans aligned to the course frameworks that support teachers in engaging students in hands-on learning experiences. And review and revise lesson plans submitted by outside writers.
  • Collaborate with the assessment team on the assessment strategy and design.
  • Provide input on formative and summative assessment strategies.
  • Develop formative and summative assessment materials, including sample questions and task models.
  • Review assessment questions and forms.
  • Represent the Career Kickstart program and the medical assistant pathway with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Presents about the medical assistant pathway at national conferences.
