Job Objective: To prevent, evaluate, and provide support within the educational environment for students experiencing language, communication, and speech sound challenges, while also serving as a resource for educational team members.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver speech and language interventions and therapies to students identified as having or being at risk for speech and language delays.
  • Develop individualized education plans to address various speech and language disorders.
  • Conduct screenings for speech, language, and hearing.
  • Perform diagnostic assessments to determine eligibility for speech and language services.
  • Complete necessary Medicaid billing documentation.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external service providers.
  • Maintain comprehensive progress notes for students receiving services.
  • Create a supportive learning atmosphere that caters to the individual needs of students.
  • Foster and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
Additional Qualifications:
  • Possess a deep understanding of the causes and evidence-based interventions for a range of speech and language disorders.
  • Have knowledge of alternative and augmentative communication methods.
  • Exhibit compassion and patience when working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication abilities.
  • Understand special education compliance requirements.
  • Show strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to collaborating with other professionals in the educational setting.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements: While fulfilling the responsibilities of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, with occasional walking and standing. Effective communication requires the ability to hear and see, as well as to articulate clearly both orally and in writing. The role demands maintaining effective audio/visual discrimination and perception necessary for successful performance. The employee may occasionally need to lift up to fifty (50) pounds and engage in activities such as reaching, standing, walking, carrying, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, sitting, and/or crawling within the classroom.

Employees may encounter situations involving students who are physically aggressive or verbally abusive, necessitating physical interaction using de-escalation and restraint techniques. The typical noise level in the work environment is moderate, and there may be an increased risk of exposure to infections. The employee may be responsible for the safety and well-being of students.

Terms of Employment: 188-day contract.

Evaluation: Conducted by the Principal at least twice annually during the first three years of service and at least once annually thereafter.
